Summary of Activities

Preparation and utilization of organization and it's environment

FY 2018

A teleconference/lecture system was installed at Da Nang University of Science and Technology, and a demonstration experiment of interactive lessons was conducted in May. Furthermore, utilizing the teleconference/lecture system developed by this project, we regularly have an online meeting with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Institut Teknologi Bandung, Chiang Mai University, Da Nang University of Science and Universiti Teknologi Mara to develop teaching materials, hold DD programs and conduct joint research, etc. The trail of course sharing has also been conducted

FY 2017

Utilizing the remote lecture system developed during this project, we have started demonstration experiments for course sharing and code sharing with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Institut Teknologi Bandung, Chiang Mai University and Univeristi Teknologi MARA. Meetings on development of teaching materials and research are conducted on regular basis.

FY 2016

Pre-camp to acquire the basic knowledge necessary for the cross-border PBL program (boot camp) by utilizing the remote lecture system installed in Tokiwa Campus of Yamaguchi University, Hiroshima classroom, Fukuoka classroom and Kuala Lumpur campus of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia was held in November. Post-assignment was carried out in February as a follow-up after the boot camp. The number of staff has increased significantly in order to make the center activities more active.。

FY 2015

With the cooperation of overseas affiliated universities such as Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and Institut Teknologi Bandung, we have established the core organization of "Asia Innovation Center" in this graduate school, and assigned lecturer in charge of this project, coordinator and invited visiting lecturer from the overseas affiliated universities. In addition, in order to hold conferences and joint lectures with overseas affiliated universities, we have installed remote lecture systems at Tokiwa Campus, Hiroshima Classroom, Fukuoka Classroom at Yamaguchi University, and Kuala Lumpur Campus of Univeristi Teknologi Malaysia.

Development and improvement of MOT educational contents and implementation of educational programs

FY 2018

Three types of cross-border PBL programs were implemented in Malaysia: a global mobility program in July, a global engineer development short-term program in August, and a global MOT human resource development short-term program in January. In addition, we have newly developed an internship program for international students, signed an agreement with Green Stamp Co., Ltd., and conducted an internship.

FY 2017

Two types of cross-border PBL education were conducted in Malaysia: the Global MOT Human Resource Development Short-term Program (YUMOT Short-term Overseas Dispatch Program) in November, and the Global Engineer Training Short-term Program in August and September. The Global MOT Human Resource Development Short-term Program tackled the issues of Malaysian companies with the theme of diversity management. In March, we invited a graduate student from the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, who worked on the same issue as a post-assignment, to Yamaguchi University. The short-term program for fostering global engineers used creative design techniques and worked with Universiti Teknologi Malaysian student to solve problems in emerging countries. In May, an internship for international students was held at Ube City Hall.

FY 2016

In November, a short-term global MOT human resource development program (YUMOT short-term overseas dispatch program) was organized in Malaysia, and in February, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia students were invited to Yamaguchi University for post-assignments. In addition, a short-term global engineer development program was held at the Univeristi Teknologi Malaysia in August and Yogyakarta State University in September. Moreover, an internship for international students was held at Four Qualia Co., Ltd. from April to May, and Maruhisa Co., Ltd. from September to October.

FY 2015

Develop global MOT short-term program materials for the purpose of acquiring knowledge and skills to create useful goods, services, and business models in collaboration with Asian people while understanding the cultural and social diversity of Asian countries. Program implemented in Indonesia and Malaysia. In addition, we have developed a global engineer training program teaching material to acquire practical skills such as product planning based on Asian needs, and implemented the program in Indonesia and Malaysia.

Research activities centred on international collaboration laboratory

FY 2018

Yamaguchi University Da Nang Office/Classroom was opened at Da Nang University of Science and Technology, and the opening ceremony was held on 9th May. On 20th September, the ceremony for the completion of the new laboratory of Yamaguchi University MJIT International IP Laboratory (IJIPL) was held with the attendance of Malaysian Minister of Education, Mr. Mazree. In addition, three research teams, "Open Innovation and Intellectual Property", "M&A and Intellectual Property", and "Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property", has been established.

FY 2017

We have signed an MOA between Yamaguchi University and Institut Teknologi Bandungon international join laboratory, and have established the Asian highest level environment and management system for education and research on technology management and innovation in emerging countries. On November 7, the opening ceremony of Yamaguchi University-Bandung Institute of Technology international join laboratory was held at Bandung Institute of Technology to start up the research activities.

FY 2016

We have signed a MOA between Yamaguchi University and Malaysia Institute of Technology Malaysia (MJIT) on international join laboratory, and have established the world's highest level of intellectual property database and Asia's highest level of education and research equipment for intellectual property while establishing the an operation structure. On November 28, the opening ceremony of the Yamaguchi University-MJIIT International IP Laboratory was held on the 3rd floor of the MJIT Building, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia's Kuala Lumpur Campus. Also, in February, we have established an international join laboratory room at Institut Teknologi Bandung.

FY 2015

The Intellectual Property Management Course of this graduate school and the Malaysia-Japan Institute of International Engineering MOT course of Univeristi Teknologi Malaysia have opened a preparation room in Kuala Lumpur Campus of University Teknologi Malaysia to set up an international join laboratory on intellectual property. We also have installed remote lecture system in preparation for the laboratory to be ready in 2016

Management of Asia MOT Consortium (AMC)

Fy 2018

In order to implement the Asian standard MOT curriculum as an educational program for AMC member universities, we will work with representatives of AMC member universities on how they can effectively use the "MOT Education Core Curriculum" and "MOT Education Core Curriculum Utilization Guidelines". We have opinions exchange session on regular basis. In addition, as part of standardization, we have decided on a standard format for shared MOT case teaching materials and utilized by AMC member schools to developed model of teaching materials. In addition, we discussed the system for course sharing and credit exchange (code sharing) with AMC member schools and established a system for operation. Furthermore, a DD program consisting of a basic program based on the MOT standard curriculum and a special program that takes advantage of Yamaguchi University's strengths was developed separately for Da Nang University of Science and Technology, Institut Teknologi Bandung and Universiti Teknologi MARA.

FY 2017

We organized exchange of opinions with the representatives of the member universities of the Asian MOT Consortium on how to effectively utilize the "MOT Education Core Curriculum" (2016 revised edition) in order to develop the Asian standard curriculum. Their opinions were reflected in the "MOT Education Core Curriculum Utilization Guidelines" developed as part of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's outsourced project to strengthen the function of highly specialized professionals. We also discussed the system for course sharing and credit sharing (code sharing) between overseas affiliated universities of AMC through symposiums and remote video conferences, and established a basic system for operation. Furthermore, in order to improve the compatibility of teaching contents, we developed teaching materials centred on cases study.

FY 2016

During a symposium in June, a signing ceremony was held with representatives of Yamaguchi University (representative school), Institut Teknologi Bandung, Chiang Mai University, Universiti Teknologi MARA, and Danang University, which are the founding universities of the Asian MOT Consortium (AMC), and constitutions of AMC has been designed during a general meeting thereafter. In addition, in order to develop the standard curriculum in Asia, we had an opinions exchange session with the representatives of major business schools in Asia on what need to be revised based on the "MOT Education Core Curriculum" (FY2009/22 Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology grant project). Their opinions were reflected in the MOT education core curriculum (2016 version) that was entrusted to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's project on enhancement training of leading business talent .

FY 2015

In November, we invited Dean of each MOT school in Asian countries, to Ube City, Yamaguchi Prefecture to discuss the establishment of the Asian MOT Consortium, which is an organization for developing a standard curriculum.

Organizing the International Symposium for Asian MOT Education (ISAME)

FY 2021

Yamaguchi University became the host of the International Symposium for Asian MOT Education (ISAME) on 1st and 2nd September 2021. The event focus on the online learning platform and data science education in each members university

FY 2020

The International Symposium for Asian MOT Education was organized online for the 1st time on 3th and 4th March 2021 by Arshad Ayub Graduate Business School, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UITM). The symposium was organized online due to Covid-19 pandemic that has spread all over the world and international travel is not allowed at the moment. Members universities has shared each of their experience in handling online learning. University Kelaniya also has participated in the ISAME as a new member.

FY 2019

Yamaguchi University hosted the International Symposium for Asian MOT Education (ISAME) for the FY 2019 in Yamaguchi City ( Yamaguchi University's Yoshida campus).

FY 2018

The MOT International Symposium was held in Da Nang, Vietnam in May and Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture in November. The November symposium was held jointly with The 15th International Conference on Innovation and Management (ICIM2018) to deepen the interaction between teachers of AMC member schools and MOT researchers. In addition, the signing ceremony for the double degree (DD) program between Yamaguchi University and Da Nang University of Technology, Institut Teknologi Bandung and Universiti Teknologi MARA was held.

FY 2017

The MOT International Symposium was held in Ube City, Yamaguchi Prefecture in July and in Chiang Mai, Thailand in November. At the July symposium, a signing ceremony between representatives of the Asian MOT Consortium (AMC) member schools [Yamaguchi University (representative school), Institute Teknologi Bandung, Chiang Mai University, universiti Teknologi MARA, and Danang University]

ISAME was held to disseminate standard curriculum and develop educational content. At the symposium in November, we discussed the introduction of MOT education core curriculum and the development and improvement of educational content.

FY 2016

At a symposium in June, a signing ceremony was held with representatives of Yamaguchi University (representative school), Bandung Institute of Technology, Chiang Mai University, Mara Institute of Technology, and Danang University, which are the founding universities of the Asian MOT Consortium (AMC), and constitutions of the AMC has been designed during the general meeting thereafter. At the symposium in November, we discussed the revision of the MOT education core curriculum and shared information on the latest research and examples of intellectual property management.

FY 2015

In September, we held a MOT symposium in Bandung, Indonesia in collaboration with Institut Teknologi Bandung. There were more than 300 attendees from universities, government and industry, and they discussed the importance of the MOT standard curriculum. In November, we invited Dean of each MOT school in Asian countries, to Ube City, Yamaguchi Prefecture to hold a MOT Symposium. There were more than 100 attendees from overseas, and we have discussed on the establishment of the Asia MOT Consortium, an organization for developing a standard curriculum.

8th Asian MOT Education Symposium: ISAME2018 in Shimonoseki

Location: Shimonoseki City (Yamaguchi Prefecture) Date: November 27-29, 2018

In this symposium, an opening ceremony, plenary session and panel discussion were held jointly with The 15th International Conference on Innovation and Management 2018 in order to deepen the interaction between the faculty members of the Asian MOT Consortium (AMC) and innovation and MOT researchers. Held at the Shimonoseki Grand Hotel overlooking the Kanmon Straits, 102 people from overseas (15 countries) and 60 people from Japan have participated. The opening ceremony started with a welcome speech by the Director of the AIC Center, Kamishi Lab, followed by welcoming remarks by the President of Yamaguchi University Mr Oka and special lecture "Data Science Education and MOT Education for Society 5.0" given with Dr. Akira Tamagami of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. In the plenary session, as one of the solutions for building a disaster-resistant society, a lecture on remote sensing research, which is one of the strengths of Yamaguchi University, overseeing how satellite data can enrich people's lives and what kind of innovation is possible, was given by Vice President Fuyuki Miura, Yamaguchi University, and Mr Hiroshi Koyama, Executive Officer of Electronic Systems Division, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation. In addition, during the panel discussion, we had an exchanged of opinions on innovation using big data, focusing on the applications required in the space business. After that, a general discussion on the differences between the technical management in the traditional manufacturing era and the technical management in the big data era were discussed, and the qualities and skills required for future technical managers were discussed. Finally, we have examined what MOT Business School should do to develop such human resources. During the AMC meeting session, the four-year AIC project was reviewed and AMC's future strategy and activity plan were discussed. As a result, in order to make AMC even more attractive, we will not only collaborate on MOT education with AMC members, but also through strategic and multifaceted collaboration with more MOT researchers to create a foundation for continuing to produce research results was concluded. At the closing ceremony, the Innovative Design Contest 2018 was organized under the sponsorship by AIC.

Ceremony on the completion of Yamaguchi University- MJIIT International Join Intellectual Property Laboratory

Venue: Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) Date: September 20, 2018

Completion of a new laboratory, YU-MJIIT International Joint Intellectual Laboratory (IJIPL), an internationally-integrated intellectual property laboratory established in collaboration with Yamaguchi University (YU) and Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT) of Univerisiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) was held at the UTM Kuala Lumpur campus. The Minister of Education, Dr. Maszlee, gave a signing ceremony during the event. Prof. Kaminishi, AIC Director and Dr. Shahrom, MJIIT Deputy Director, gave a speech on the significance and role of the new laboratory from the perspective of their respective university. In addition, the first secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia, Mr Ishikawa, gave a congratulatory address with expectations for the new laboratory. In order to promote collaboration with companies, briefing sessions for companies were also held. In addition, since Prime Minister Mahathir was visiting the UTM Kuala Lumpur Campus during the day, we had a chance took a commemorative photo.

7th Asian MOT Education Symposium: ISAME2018 in Danang

Location: Da Nang City (Vietnam) Date: May 9-10, 2018

The 7th Asian MOT Education Symposium was held in Da Nang, a city in central Vietnam. Approximately 300 people attended, including MOT educators in Asia, Vietnamese government officials, corporate officials in Da Nang City, and graduate students from Da Nang University of Science and Technology. Topic on [Why MOT is necessary in Asia?] was discussed taking challenges faced by Vietnam and Da Nang city as a focus. On the 10th, we moved to the Muong Thanh Luxury Hotel and discussed MOT Core Curriculum Utilization Guidelines shared by Asian MOT Consortium (AMC) member schools and case material formats.

Venue: Da Nang (Vietnam) Date: May 9, 2018

On May 9, 2018, the opening ceremony of Yamaguchi University Danang Office and Classroom was held at Da Nang University of Science and Technology. The purpose of this office is mainly to implement the Double Degree Program (DD Program). This is the third overseas base after Malaysia Institute of Technology (November 2016) and Bandung Institute of Technology (November 2017) related to AIC.

6th Asian MOT Education Symposium :ISAME2017 in Chiang Mai

Venue: Chiang Mai City (Thailand) Date: November 15-17, 2017

The Asian MOT Education Symposium was held from November 15th to 17th, 2017 in Chiang Mai, the ancient capital of northern Thailand. About 100 people attended, including MOT educators in Asia, Thai government officials, industry player in Chiang Mai city, and graduate students from Chiang Mai University. Focusing on the high entrepreneurship rate in Thailand, this symposium started with a keynote speech and a panel discussion on the theme of "Startups and MOTs" to discuss the role of MOTs in startups. In addition, a remote lecture system was used to hold a demonstration lecture that links four venues: Yamaguchi University, Universiti Tekonologi Malaysia, Institut Teknologi Bandung, and Chiang Mai University. The course share and code share of MOT education using the remote lecture system were discussed. We also have set up an promotion booth of Yamaguchi University and promoted Yamaguchi University to students at Chiang Mai University.

Opening Ceremony of International Join Laboratory between Yamaguchi University and Institut Teknologi Bandung

Location: Bandung City (Indonesia) Date: November 7, 2017

The MOA (Memorandum of Agreement) of YU-SBM IBT International Joint Laboratory of Technology Management in Emerging Countries (ITMEC), an international collaboration course between Yamaguchi University (YU) and Institut Teknologi Bandung 's School of Business Management (SBM ITB) was signed by the Dean of Graduate School of Technology and Management of Yamaguchi University and the Director of SBM IBT. Then, a commemorative symposium was held under the theme of "MOT in Emerging Countries". Going forward, we will aim to become a research base in Asia by promoting MOT research specialized in innovation in emerging countries.

International Join Laboratory

5th Asian MOT Education Symposium: ISAME2017 in Ube

Venue: Ube City Date: July 6-7, 2017

On Thursday, July 6, the International Symposium for Asian MOT Education (ISAME) 2017 in Ube was organized at D11 classroom (Ube City), Yamaguchi University Tokiwa Campus as the main venue. Over 560 faculty members, including 46 students from the Graduate School of Technology and Management and the Graduate School of Creative Science as well as trainees from the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT) who came to Japan at the same time, attended. During the opening ceremony, Mr. Mitsuyasu Otsuki, General Manager of Professional Education Division, Higher Education Bureau, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, gave a lecture after the organizer's greetings by the Director of AIC, Prof Kamishishi. During the event, he gave a keynote speech titled "The situation of Japanese professional education in universities: the current state and reform of management / engineering education." Later, representatives from Institut Teknologi Bandung (Indonesia), Da Nang University of Science and Technology (Vietnam), Univeristi Teknologi MARA (Malaysia), and Chiang Mai University (Thailand) gave a special lecture on the theme of "Industrial policy and R&D in Asian countries". On Friday, 7th, the Asian MOT Consortium (AMC) General Assembly was held to approve Univeristi Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) membership. After that, discussions were held to implement the course sharing, and the future work schedule. Finally, the signing ceremony for the agreement on the development of course sharing was held.

4th Asian MOT Education Symposium :ISAME2016 in Malaysia

Venue: Kuala Lumpur, Shah Alam (Malaysia) Date: November 28-30, 2016

The International Symposium for Asian MOT Education (ISAME) 2016 in Malaysia was organized at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in Kuala Lumpur from November 28th to 29th and the Univeristi Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in Shah Alam on November 30th. Over 310 people attended, including universities faculty member, graduate students and corporate personnel involved in education and research on MOT and innovation around the world. Opening ceremony for International Join Laboratory between Yamaguchi University and Malaysia Institute of Technology

The opening ceremony of YU-MJIIT International Joint Intellectual Laboratory (IJIPL), an international collaboration course established in collaboration with Yamaguchi University (YU) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia's (UTM) Malaysia-Japan Institute of International Technology (MJIIT), was held at UTM Kuala Lumpur. It was held at the MJIIT Building in the campus. Vice-President Prof Hori (in charge of academic research) from Yamaguchi University and 12 member from the AIC including Prof Kaminishi attended. Pro Chancellor Tan Sri Salleh of Univeristi Teknologi Malaysia and 15 from MJIIT including Dean Prof Rubiah attended. Representatives fromTilburg University (Netherlands), Wuhan University of Technology (China), PUC-Sao Paulo University (Brazil), University of Vaasa (Finland), Institut Teknologi Bandung (Indonesia), Chiang Mai University (Thailand), Da Nang University of Science and Technology (Vietnam), Japanese government agencies, Malaysian government agencies and industry players also attended. Following the greetings from the representatives of Yamaguchi University and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, congratulatory remarks was received from MEXT, Embassy of Japan in Malaysia, JICA Malaysia, Thomson Reuters and Kinokuniya Bookstore. After that, a signage signing and tape cutting ceremony was held followed by a tour to the laboratory which was under construction.

3rd Asian MOT Education Symposium :ISAME2016 in Ube

Venue: Ube City Date: June 16-17, 2016

The International Symposium for Asian MOT Education (ISAME) 2016 in Ube was held in Tokiwa Campus D11 Classroom as a main venue and Yoshida Campus No.1 Classroom, and Yamaguchi University Tokiwa Campus C11 Classroom (Ube City) as 2 remote venues. Over 530 students and faculty members from the Graduate School of Technology and Management and the Graduate School of Science and Technology for Innovation attended. During the opening ceremony on the 16th, Mr. Hiroshi Kawasaki, Assistant Director of the Graduate School of Creative Education, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) gave a congratulatory remarks after a welcome speech by the Director of AIC, Prof Kaminishi. 2nd Asian MOT Education Symposium :ISAME2015 in Ube

Venue: Ube City Date: November 14-15, 2015

The 2nd International Symposium for Asian MOT Education (ISAME) 2015 in Ube was held at ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel in Ube as the main venue. After the first symposium that mainly examined technology management education from the demand side perspective, this symposium examined technology management education in Asia from the supply's perspective. Since it was held jointly with Malaysia Japan Joint International Conference (MJJIC) 2015, 157 people participated, including 91 people from overseas mainly from Malaysia. The opening ceremony started by a greeting by the Director of AIC, Prof Kaminishi and a welcome greeting by President Oka of Yamaguchi University, followed by speech by Director Kitayama of the Special Education Division of the Higher Education Bureau of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Deputy Director Kobayashi of MJIIT (Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology). A Keynote speech was given by Professor Emeritus Kodama of the University of Tokyo. After that, representatives from leading business school that provides technology management related programs in Asian countries gave a lecture on the current state and issues of technology management education in each countries. Furthermore, since the programs provided by each school in the panel discussion have different characteristics depending on the environment in which they are placed, in order to educate human resources who promote innovation in the global field, the characteristics of each school must be identified, strengthened and a certain level of program harmonization is needed. In addition, we exchanged views on how the Asian MOT Consortium should be as a platform for such collaboration, and shared a blueprint for the establishment among the partner candidate schools.

Indonesia-Japan Symposium on Management of Technology 2015

Location: Bandung City (Indonesia) Date: September 10, 2015

On September 10, 2015, the 1st Asian MOT Education Symposium (Subtitle: Indonesia-Japan Symposium on Management of Technology 2015) was held in Mercure Hotel, Bandung City in cooperation with Institut Teknologi Bandung, one of the leading universities in Indonesia. During the Keynote speeches and panel discussions, executives from global companies, government officials and officials from accreditation bodies from Japan and Indonesia were invited to discuss "MOT as a Key Success Factor for Unlocking Indonesia's Economic Potentials". Discussion was concentrated on the necessity of technology management education in macroeconomic growth. At the same time, we exchanged opinions on the current state of cooperation in business schools in Asia. In recent years, interest in MOT education has increased in Indonesia. About 150 people from various industries. 50 people related to universities, and around 50 government officers attended.
